Trenton Triumphs Over Branford in FHSAA Softball Class 1A State Championship

Gainesville, Fla. – Trenton High School’s softball team capped off a remarkable season by capturing the FHSAA Class 1A State Championship on Friday evening. Facing off against Branford High School, Trenton emerged victorious with a hard-fought 2-1 victory. The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the board, scoring their first run in the top of the first inning. Branford pitcher Jamie Simms struck out the side, but a wild pitch allowed Trenton’s leadoff batter to reach base. A sacrifice bunt and a double by catcher Emery Simpson brought home the first run. Branford responded in the bottom of the third inning when Emily Chisolm led off with a triple. She scored on a groundout by Paige Robinson to tie the game. Both teams remained scoreless for the next three innings, with Trenton pitcher Addison Register and Simms trading zeros in the circle. In the top of the seventh inning, Trenton’s offense came to life. Kennedy Bevill singled to lead off the inning and stole second base. After Register flied out, Simpson delivered the game-winning hit with a line drive single that scored Bevill. Branford had one last chance in the bottom of the seventh, but Register retired the side in order to seal the victory. Register pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits while striking out 13 batters. Simpson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Bevill added two hits for Trenton. For Branford, Simms allowed only three hits and struck out 10 batters in a valiant effort. Trenton’s victory marks their first state championship in softball since 2014. The team finished the season with a 29-2 record, while Branford ends the year with a 23-5 mark. In the post-game celebration, Trenton head coach Joey Livingston praised his team’s determination and resilience. “This group has worked incredibly hard all season,” he said. “They never doubted themselves, even when things got tough. Trenton High School’s softball team etched their name in history on Saturday, claiming the FHSAA Class 1A State Championship with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Branford High School. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five runs off Branford starter Emma Willis. Jordan Lambert drove in two with a single, while Maddie Beagle added an RBI double. Branford battled back in the third inning, plating three runs to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Buccaneers continued to chip away, scoring two more in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5. However, Trenton regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a single by Lily Compton that drove in Maddie Hellard. The Tigers added another run in the seventh on a wild pitch. Branford threatened in their final at-bat, loading the bases with one out. But Trenton reliever Madison Kirksey struck out the next two batters to secure the victory. Kirksey was credited with the win, pitching 4.1 innings of relief and allowing only one run on three hits. Lambert led the Tigers at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Branford’s Willis took the loss, giving up eight runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings. Gracie Rivers went 3-for-3 for the Buccaneers. The victory marked Trenton’s first-ever state softball championship and capped off an impressive season in which they went 25-5. Branford’s pitcher, Madison Reynolds, also pitched well, but Trenton’s offense was too much to handle. Trenton’s offense was led by Lily Easterling, who went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Madison Burke also had a big game, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Branford’s only runs came in the top of the seventh inning, when Madison Reynolds doubled to score two runs. However, it was too little, too late, as Trenton held on for the 6-2 victory. With the win, Trenton claims the FHSAA Softball Class 1A State Championship.
