Despite her efforts to save the lives of her colleagues, Sergeant Ellzey herself became unwell. She experienced severe headaches and intermittent dizziness, and eventually collapsed at work. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered the brain aneurysms. She underwent emergency surgery, but never regained consciousness and remained in a coma until her death. Sergeant Ellzey’s bravery and dedication to protecting others will always be remembered. She is survived by her four children. Ellzey’s story highlights the dangers faced by corrections officers every day and the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe.
