Women’s Tennis Earns Prestigious ITA Regional Rankings

The women’s tennis team has garnered significant recognition in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) year-end regional rankings, having secured top-flight positions on three separate occasions.

Southeast Region

In the highly competitive Southeast Region, the team earned an impressive No. 3 ranking, placing them among the elite programs in the area. This achievement is a testament to the team’s consistent performances throughout the season.

Atlantic Region

The Atlantic Region, known for its storied tennis tradition, saw the team claim the No. 2 spot. This ranking reflects the team’s exceptional play against a formidable slate of opponents, including some of the most prestigious programs in the region.

Navy Women’s Tennis Garners Year-End Regional Rankings

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its year-end Atlantic Regional Rankings, with the Navy women’s tennis team earning recognition in multiple categories.

Team Ranking:

* No. 10 Atlantic Region This marks the fourth time in program history that the Midshipmen have achieved a year-end regional ranking.

Singles Ranking:

* No. 12 Emily Tannenbaum Tannenbaum rose in the rankings after being ranked No. 19 last season, becoming the first Navy singles player to be ranked in the ITA’s end-of-season regional rankings.

Doubles Ranking:

* No. 10 Samantha Johannes / Sia Chaudry Johannes and Chaudry are the second Navy duo to appear in the region’s doubles rankings, joining Kaylah Hodge and Amanda Keller after the 2016-17 season.

Team Highlights:

Under head coach Keith Puryear, the Mids posted an impressive 24-7 record, including a 21-1 mark at home and a 4-1 victory in Patriot League play. They defeated Army three times, including in the Patriot League championship game, for their first league title in program history.

Individual Highlights:

* Emily Tannenbaum: All-Patriot League First Team, three-time selection; broke four program records in singles. * Samantha Johannes / Sia Chaudry: Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year, posted a 15-11 overall record, went 10-6 at No. 1 singles in the spring.
