Hyderabad, Telangana: Dozens of TET-qualified aspirants staged a sit-in protest outside the residence of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR, demanding immediate recruitment for teaching positions. The aspirants, who have been waiting for appointments for several years, knelt down in front of the CM’s residence, holding placards and chanting slogans. They demanded the state government to expedite the recruitment process and provide them with permanent jobs. Speaking to the media, one of the protesters, P. Lakshmi, said, “We have been waiting patiently for over five years now. We have passed the TET exam and have been registered with the Telangana State Teacher Eligibility Test (TSTET), but the government has not yet called us for appointments.” “We are all struggling to make ends meet. Many of us are unemployed and facing financial hardships. We urge the CM to show compassion and release a job notification immediately,” added another protester, M. Srinivas. The protesters said they had submitted several memorandums to the government and had met with officials, but their demands had gone unheeded. They expressed their disappointment and frustration with the lack of progress. The sit-in protest continued for several hours, disrupting traffic in the area. Police personnel were deployed to maintain order and avoid any untoward incidents. The Telangana government has not yet responded to the demands of the protesters. However, MLC-elect Teenmar Mallanna reportedly promised to facilitate a meeting for them. This was the second such protest by the teacher job aspirants in the past ten days. According to the demonstrators, the Supreme Court had ordered the government to consider appointing meritorious candidates to vacant positions such as assistant professors, junior lecturers, and post-graduate lecturers. They argued that this order had not been implemented, leaving them unemployed despite their qualifications. The protest highlighted the challenges faced by aspiring teachers in India. Many graduates in the field are struggling to secure permanent jobs due to a lack of vacancies and the government’s delayed implementation of court orders.
