Meyer Turku Delivers Methanol-Ready Cruise Ship Mein Schiff 7 to TUI Cruises
Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku has delivered the Mein Schiff 7, a methanol-ready cruise ship, to German cruise line TUI Cruises. The delivery ceremony took place on June 10, 2024. Mein Schiff 7 is the seventh ship in the Mein Schiff series and the first unit with methanol capacity built at the Turku Shipyard. The 111,500 GT vessel is the first in TUI Cruises’ fleet to exclusively use low-emission marine diesel and is equipped with shore power connection and catalytic converters. Moreover, Mein Schiff 7 is methanol-ready, enabling its propulsion power to become virtually CO2 neutral with green methanol in the future. The eco-friendly cruise ship is equipped with an Auramarine methanol fuel delivery system. “Receiving this ship is a special moment for us,” said Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises. “We are now sailing on Mein Schiff 7 to Kiel, where we will welcome the first guests on board on June 12.” The new ship, which flies the flag of Malta, has a length of 316 meters and a width of 35.8 meters. It can accommodate up to 2,894 passengers and 1,447 crew members.
Methanol-ready Mein Schiff 7 Delivered
The seventh ship in TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff fleet, Mein Schiff 7, has been delivered from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The vessel is the second of the line’s “Methanol Class” ships, designed to operate on low-emission methanol fuel. Mein Schiff 7 features a range of environmentally friendly innovations, including a dual-fuel engine that can run on either methanol or marine gas oil. The ship also has a ballast water treatment system and a waste heat recovery system that reduces energy consumption. The 99,500-ton vessel has a capacity for 2,534 passengers and 1,000 crew members. It features a wide range of amenities, including 15 restaurants, 25 bars, a spa, a fitness center, and a water park. Mein Schiff 7 is the largest cruise ship ever built in Finland. It will enter service in April 2024 and will sail in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. The delivery of Mein Schiff 7 is a significant milestone for TUI Cruises and for the cruise industry as a whole. Methanol is seen as a promising alternative fuel for cruise ships, as it is less polluting than traditional fuels and can be produced from renewable sources. The Mein Schiff 7 is the second of six methanol-ready cruise ships that TUI Cruises has on order from Meyer Turku. The remaining four ships are scheduled to be delivered between 2024 and 2026.
