Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Bank Robbery and Attempted Hotel Theft

A 62-year-old man, David Steven Gober, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in Rock County, Wisconsin. Gober was convicted of two theft-related crimes: robbing the BMO Harris Bank in Beloit and attempting to rob the Hotel Goodwin in the same city. On June 16, 2023, Gober robbed the bank around 5 p.m. by handing a note to a teller that demanded money and claimed he had a gun. About five hours later, he attempted to rob the hotel by handing a similar note to an employee. On June 7, Gober was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison with five years of extended supervision for the bank robbery. For the attempted theft at the hotel, he was sentenced to 10 years of confinement with five years of extended supervision. The sentences will be served concurrently. Detective Acting Superintendent Anthony Clarke said the victim was home alone when he heard a knock at the door and answered it. “He opened the door to find two male offenders forcing entry. A struggle ensued, during which the victim was shot twice by one of the offenders,” he said. “The offenders then doused the house with petrol and set fire to it before fleeing.” The fire caused significant damage to the home, but it was extinguished by ACT Fire & Rescue before it could spread to neighbouring properties.
