Drivers advised to “use Gate 3 from Penn Hill Road to enter the RUH if possible.” Third detour route for buses. Ambulance access will not be affected. Councillor Manda Rigby, Cabinet Member for Highways at Bath and North East Somerset Council, stated that the contractor will complete the work as quickly as possible, but timing may change due to weather or site progress.

The reconstruction work is divided into three phases. In phase one (from Monday to Tuesday night) there will be no bus to the hospital between 19:00 and 07:00. A diversion route will be created. The parking lot for the maternity ward (P4) will be closed.

During phase two (Wednesday and Thursday evenings), the maternity ward car park will reopen, but bus service restrictions will remain in place with a second diversion route.

Finally, phase three (Friday and Saturday evenings) will see the whole of Combe Park closed. Drivers are advised to “use Gate 3 from Penn Hill Road to enter the RUH if possible.” The third phase also includes a third detour route for buses.

A spokesman for the Royal United Hospital assured the public that ambulances would not be affected: “Bath and North East Somerset Council will be closing Combe Park, the main road outside the hospital, for five nights from Monday 29th July for resurfacing works. We are working closely with the council and other organisations to minimise disruption to the RUH.

“Emergency room and ambulance access will not be affected, but there are a number of other changes you should be aware of.”
