Driving on a long road all day and night can seem like a nightmare, and it is.

People don’t line up to become truck drivers, and that’s no surprise, because it can be quite lonely when you’re on your own.

But it could be worth the downsides after one professional driver showed his pay stub.

According to statistics, around 268,000 people worked as truck drivers in the UK in 2021. That is 16 percent less than in 2017.

Although the job offers many benefits, it is still not seen as a job that is attainable for many people.

Ashley Hale loves his job and documents his time on the road on his YouTube channel.

Under one of his videos, a viewer told him that people “actually want to know” how much they can potentially earn doing this work and that this could be an incentive to get people into the sector.

In a recent video showing his pay stub, he explained that he would be sharing the salary he received at his previous job, and not at his current employer.

Ashley said he didn’t want to make anyone at his company feel uncomfortable talking about his salary, but instead he wanted to talk about a company that no longer exists and fired him.

He said that at his previous job he worked in the car all week and that his salary corresponds to that specific role as a ‘tramp’.

He flashed his payslip on screen for viewers to see, explaining that he earned £625 for a 45-hour week.

That works out at around £32,500 a year, which is pretty average in the UK.

However, it was the extras that pushed the figure up to around £52,000.

In an interview with his viewers, he revealed that overtime was paid at twice the standard rate, equating to an estimated extra £261 a week.

He also received a £3 weekly bonus for working ‘unusual hours’, such as evening shifts.

If his performance was on par with the targets, he would also receive an additional £40 for his hard work.

He was then given around £100 in allowance for a night out, to cover the cost of accommodation or meals if he worked nights.

All together that would equate to around £1,000 a week and just under £53,000 a year.

Ashley is probably swimming in money because he just can’t spend it when he works long shifts and is on the road all the time.

His commentators were pleased with his analysis and felt the role was now more attractive as they knew how much they could earn.

Someone wrote: “Heavy truck drivers are good people and should be paid well.”

Another commented: “This is fantastic, I am considering a career change and plan to get my license next year. This is a fantastic insight.”

Someone else wrote: “Awww, that’s quality mate, you must be doing great to deserve your performance bonus, keep it up!”
