Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar Applaud Progress on Maharashtra-Karnataka Border Dispute Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar have welcomed the steps taken by the Lok Sabha in resolving the long-standing border dispute between Maharashtra and Karnataka. On Tuesday, the Lok Sabha approved a motion to set up a joint parliamentary committee to examine the issue. Thackeray said that the formation of the committee is a “step forward” towards resolving the dispute amicably. “The Lok Sabha has made a start. I am confident that the joint committee will work sincerely to find a solution that is acceptable to both states,” Thackeray said. Pawar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in creating a “conducive atmosphere” for resolving the dispute through the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra. “I want to express my gratitude to the Prime Minister for using his good offices and creating a conducive atmosphere for the MVA government to take steps towards resolving the dispute amicably,” Pawar said. The Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute dates back to the formation of linguistic states in 1956. The dispute involves 865 villages spread over Belagavi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Vijayapura districts. The MVA government had appointed a state cabinet sub-committee to pursue the matter with the central government. In February, the state assembly passed a resolution urging the center to resolve the dispute through the Supreme Court. The joint parliamentary committee is expected to submit its report within a year. It is hoped that the committee’s findings will help pave the way for a permanent resolution to the border dispute.MVA Leaders Express Confidence After Lok Sabha Victory, Pledge to Contest Assembly Elections TogetherMVA Leaders Express Confidence After Lok Sabha Victory, Pledge to Contest Assembly Elections Together At the first joint press conference after the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance’s victory in Maharashtra in the recent Lok Sabha polls, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray asserted that the alliance will contest and win the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking at the press conference, Pawar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating a conducive atmosphere for the MVA in the state. “Every time Prime Minister Modi has campaigned, held rallies, and roadshows, we have won. So I feel it is my duty that we should thank Prime Minister Modi for creating a conducive political environment for the alliance,” he said. Chavan said that a preparatory meeting of the MVA took place before the press conference for the upcoming Assembly elections and expressed confidence that the alliance will win the Assembly elections together. He also clarified that there is no “big brother” among the alliance partners and that they are all equal, and the seat distribution decision will be taken based on the merit of each seat. Thackeray said that the victory in the Lok Sabha polls is not the end but just a beginning. “The state has shown how hollow is the myth that the BJP is invincible… The Modi government has now become the NDA government, and there is no guarantee on how long this government will last,” he said. Responding to allegations that the MVA is spreading a fake narrative, Thackeray asked, “What was the story of ‘acche din’ that Modi used? What about the story about ‘taking away mangalsutra’ and ‘taking away cows’? Were they true?” When asked whether Ajit Pawar and other leaders of his NCP faction will be welcomed back into his fold, Pawar said, “There is no question of that.” The press conference concluded with leaders expressing their gratitude to the people of the state for the Lok Sabha poll results and pledging to fight as one in the upcoming Assembly elections.Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar have both expressed their thoughts on the ongoing Lok Sabha debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. Thackeray stated that the Lok Sabha debate had “made a start” and that it was important to hold discussions on issues affecting the people. He also emphasized the need for constructive criticism and dialogue in Parliament. Meanwhile, Pawar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating a “conducive atmosphere” for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra. He noted that the PM’s support had allowed the MVA to function smoothly for more than two and a half years. Pawar’s statement comes amidst speculation about a potential realignment of political forces in Maharashtra, with some suggesting that the BJP and NCP could join forces to form a new government. However, both Pawar and the BJP have denied these claims. The ongoing Lok Sabha debate has seen a range of issues being discussed, including the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy, and foreign policy. The debate is expected to continue for several more days before a vote is taken on the Motion of Thanks.
