Left-handed starter Kaden Pfeffer (St. Cloud State University) excelled on the mound for the Rox, pitching seven strong innings with only one earned run allowed on one walk. He recorded his third win of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.34. Brandon Jaenke (Viterbo University) and debuting reliever Brady Joyner (Willamette University) completed the night with a combined five strikeouts in two shutout frames. At the plate, St. Cloud broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with a two-run single by Sawyer Smith (University of Kansas), driving in two runners with two outs. Will Henson (Ohio State University), Trey King (University of Georgia), and Jaixen Frost (University of Iowa) each collected two hits for the Rox. Three more runs came in the sixth inning, with singles by Henson and King setting up a sacrifice fly by Andrew Savage (Pepperdine University). A wild pitch allowed King to score, extending the Rox lead to 5-1. Frost added an RBI single in the eighth inning, bringing his team’s total runs to seven. Kaden Pfeffer was named the All-Star Trophy and Awards Star of the Game. The Rox return home on Friday, July 5, for a two-game series against the Mankato MoonDogs. Friday’s 7:05 p.m. game will feature a Friday Night Fireworks display, and Saturday’s 6:05 p.m. finale will include a tote bag giveaway for the first 300 fans.

THUNDER BAY, ON – The St. Cloud Rox (19-16) defeated the Thunder Bay Border Cats (19-17) by a score of 7-1 on Thursday, July 4. With the win, the Rox ended their four-game road trip split, outscoring their opponents by a margin of 19-12.

On the mound, left-handed starting pitcher Kaden Pfeffer (St. Cloud State University) gave the Rox their fourth quality start of the summer. He efficiently threw 83 pitches over seven strong innings, allowing just one earned run with one walk. Pfeffer’s team-leading fourth quality start earned him his third win of the season and lowered his earned run average to 2.34. Brandon Jaenke (Viterbo University) and debuting reliever Brady Joyner (Willamette University) closed the night with a combined five strikeouts in two shutout frames.

At the plate, St. Cloud broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth inning. A pair of two-out walks and a hit by pitch loaded Sawyer Smith (University of Kansas), and Smith came through. His two-run single put the Rox ahead by a pair and brought his team-leading RBI total to 27. Smith enjoyed a two-hit night along with Will Henson (Ohio State University), Trey King (University of Georgia) and Jaixen Frost (University of Iowa).

Three more Rox runs scored in the sixth inning when Henson and King singled off an Andrew Savage (Pepperdine University) sacrifice fly. Moments later, a wild pitch brought King down from third for a 5-1 St. Cloud lead. The final pair of Rox runs came in the eighth, when Frost followed a run-producing double play with an RBI single to the infield. Frost also finished with two stolen bases to go along with his pair of hits.

The Rox return home on Friday, July 5 to begin a two-game series against the Mankato MoonDogs.
