- If you want to gain XP in the game, prioritize defense and Void Fragment missions with friends.
- Missions provide more XP in new areas that you unlock by playing the campaign.
- Void Intercept missions will give you a ton of XP if you defeat a tough boss.
While the first group of enemies won’t pose much of a threat, expect The Final Descendant’s gradual leveling curve to slowly creep up on you. The game’s Descendants may give you a variety of playstyles to choose from, but a high-level enemy will still be a chore to defeat. If you choose the right missions to earn the optimal amount of XP, you’ll level up quickly and be able to keep up with all the bosses the game throws at you. Based on our time with characters like Bunny and Viessa, here are the best methods you can use to farm XP.

Complete defense missions to gain XP
Resource defense missions in the Kingston, Sterile Land, and Vespers regions are great for giving you XP for clearing waves of enemies. Think of it as a horde mode that gives out rewards based on how many rounds of increasingly difficult enemies you can clear. While it’s possible to tackle these solo, we recommend teaming up with friends or strangers, as they’ll help you wipe out these waves quickly. If the game’s combat has you bogged down, here are some tips and tricks you should check out. The Large Nuclear Reactor mission in Sterile Land is another good option for grinding out XP.

Defeat the hordes of the Void Fragment mission with AoE attacks
While these missions only open up if you have a Descendant with the right elemental attack, they’re worth returning to after you’ve completed the main missions in a region. They tend to throw mobs at you in enclosed spaces, making them perfect targets for AoE attacks. If you’re just starting out in the game, we recommend using Lepic’s Traction Grenade to pull enemies into a spot. This makes them easy pickings for you and your teammates’ offensive skills. These missions also give you Kuiper Shards to upgrade modules.

Reach new areas by completing story missions
While you start out fighting low-level enemies in Kingston, progressing through the main story will unlock even more options. Not only will these new regions contain new bosses and missions to test your skills against, they’ll also contain higher-level threats, which will grant you more XP for taking them out. This is especially useful at high levels, since you can’t grind in the base zone forever. You can always return to previous zones if you want to attempt missions on Hard difficulty.

Defeat Void Intercept bosses with teammates
Taking on Void Intercept bosses is also a good option if you want to level up quickly. You’ll encounter a number of them organically through the main story. You can repeat these boss fights later on to earn rare loot that counts towards unlocking weapons and Descendants like Bunny. While you may want to stick with the same character to level them up, remember that account-wide Mastery Rank rewards apply to all of your Descendants. The harder versions of these missions yield more XP, but wait until your character is high enough to take them on directly. Remember to take the enemy’s elemental strengths and weaknesses into account.

The Battle Pass has XP tokens that speed up your progress
While the premium battle pass isn’t free, it does offer some nice perks for players who pay for it. For example, you’ll receive a Descendant EXP Gain +30% boost when you reach level 3 of the battle pass. This lasts for a day, allowing you to complete a variety of missions to level up your Descendant. Combine this with the other XP farming methods and you can quickly increase your stats in-game. Due to the issues players were experiencing at launch, developer Nexon has also awarded two 3-day bonus XP tokens for you to take advantage of. Simply head to your mailbox and you’ll find these +30% XP boosts waiting for you.
