The three boaters, from the Misipawistik Cree Nation, ventured onto the northern basin of Lake Winnipeg for a moose hunting expedition. However, they failed to return to their intended meeting point early Friday morning. The missing persons’ report was filed around 7 a.m. from Little Moose Lake, prompting a swift response from multiple search and rescue teams, including the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and a search helicopter. During the search, belongings belonging to the missing boaters were discovered along the coastline. On Saturday, Easterville Search and Rescue located and retrieved the body of one of the men from the water. As of now, the search continues for the two remaining boaters, a 28-year-old and a 29-year-old, who remain missing. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.

A 31-year-old man has died and two others are still missing after a group of boaters disappeared early Friday morning near Grand Rapids.

According to the RCMP, the three men were from the Misipawistik Cree Nation and traveled by boat to the northern basin of Lake Winnipeg to hunt moose. They were on their way back to the community but did not show up at their meeting point and did not interact with anyone.

The three men were reported missing around 7 a.m. Friday from Little Moose Lake.

Several search and rescue groups were deployed to the area along with the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team. A helicopter was also deployed to help find the missing boaters.

Items belonging to the group were found along the coastline.

On Saturday, the body of one of the men was found in the water by Easterville Search and Rescue.

The search continues for the 28-year-old and 29-year-old men. They have not yet been found.
