One person was killed Saturday when a pickup truck ran off a road in the Midlands and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 4:10 p.m. in Fairfield County, Corporal Brittany Glover said.

A 1994 Ford pickup was traveling eastbound on SC 200, and near the intersection with Caughman Lane, the truck went off the right side of the road, according to Glover. The pickup then swerved back onto the road and continued on the left side, where it struck a tree and then overturned, Glover said.

According to Glover, the driver died at the scene.

The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the driver’s identity.

Glover said the driver was the only person in the truck and no other injuries were reported.

It is not known whether the driver was wearing a seat belt.
