Heading into the halfway point, Galactic Storm held on to his advantage, reaching it in :57.4. As the race progressed, Snap Call (driven by John MacDonald) emerged as a formidable challenger. However, Galactic Storm’s late burst proved decisive, securing his triumph in 1:53.4. Leon Bailey Continues Dominance While Whittemore celebrated his milestone achievement, Leon Bailey showcased his dominance on the track. Bailey tied the track record by winning an astonishing seven races on the card, including Usurp Hanover, Courtly Prince, Lady To Watch, and Fear Her Touch (in a draw with Steeven Genios’ The Hunt Is On). Whittemore Wins 2,000th at Vernon Downs

Vernon, NY — It was a very memorable night at Vernon Downs as veteran driver Jimmy Whittemore earned his 2,000th career win when he set the recommended pace of $7,500 aboard Galactic Storm. Also on Saturday (June 29), leader Leon Bailey tied the track record with seven wins on the card.

In the feature, Snap Call (John MacDonald) took the lead and led into the quarter in :27.1. He used a :30.3 second to reach the halfway point first in :57.4. Galactic Storm ($33) made his move first on the final turn. Snap Call led into the three-quarters in 1:26.2.

Snap Call and second-place Galactic Storm battled it out all the way. Galactic Storm used a late burst to take the win in 1:53.4. Scrub Hanover (Leon Bailey) finished third.

Galactic Storm is a 5-year-old gelding by American Ideal. He is owned and trained by Whittemore. It was his first win of 2024. He now has eight career wins.

Bailey has been on a roll the past five weeks. It was the second time this season that he won seven races in one card and the third time in his career. He won tonight with Usurp Hanover, Courtly Prince, Lady To Watch, and rode Fear Her Touch to a draw with The Hunt Is On (Steeven Genios). His last three wins came with Go With The Flow, Twentysevenbelow and Woodside Gabe.
