Job Corps Students Embark on Fairground Improvement Project Job Corps students from the local center are setting out to make a positive impact on their community by undertaking a comprehensive improvement project at the town’s beloved fairgrounds. Working under the guidance of experienced instructors, the students will utilize their newly acquired skills in carpentry, electrical work, and landscaping to breathe new life into the fairgrounds. The project aims to enhance the overall safety, accessibility, and aesthetic appeal of the facility. Plans include repairing and repainting aging structures, upgrading electrical systems for improved lighting and safety measures, and creating accessible ramps and walkways to accommodate visitors of all abilities. Additionally, the students will revamp the landscaping, creating vibrant flowerbeds, manicured lawns, and inviting seating areas. The fairgrounds, a hub of community activity and special events, has long been in need of maintenance and modernization. The Job Corps students’ efforts will provide a much-needed face-lift while also giving them hands-on experience in their respective trades. “This project is a win-win for our community and our students,” said the center director. “It allows our students to showcase their skills while making a tangible difference in the lives of our residents.” The project is expected to take several weeks to complete, with the grand reopening of the fairgrounds planned as a community celebration. Local officials and residents have expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm for the students’ initiative. “We are so proud of the Job Corps students for stepping up and taking ownership of this important community space,” said the mayor. “Their hard work will benefit generations to come.” Through this improvement project, the Job Corps students are not only gaining valuable experience but also contributing to the fabric of their community. Their efforts serve as a testament to the transformative power of education and vocational training. The Ravalli County Fair Foundation has new projects at the fairgrounds. The Ravalli County Fair Foundation has new projects at the fairgrounds. Students from Trapper Creek Job Corp (TCJC) are receiving hands-on training in pouring concrete in preparation for building a wooden pergola on the old teepee burner ring on the carnival lawn near Fairgrounds Road. TCJC Gary Mitchell said the project would add to the outdoor activities at the fairgrounds. “The old chimney where wood chips were burned is now at Fort Missoula,” Mitchell said. “We use that space to pour cement for a pergola – an enclosed shelter from above. This is for anyone who wants to use it for any outdoor activity. It could be used for weddings, as there have been weddings at the fairgrounds.” Joaquine Alfario, TCJC’s acting head of trade, said the project started on Thursday when they dug the inside of the teepee ring down 10 inches. They then filled the center of the ring with 6 inches of compacted gravel, added rebar and 4 inches of concrete. “It will be another attraction to bring people to the fairgrounds,” Alfario said. “Which I think is a very cool idea.” Trapper Creek Job Corps students on site included Alfario, Bret Bernhard, Elijah Killsnight, Jonathan Rush, Avaia Brassard and Willian Munoz. He wasn’t sure when the project would be completed. “It seems to be moving pretty quickly so far,” Alfario said. “I don’t have enough experience in my masonry trade to be a trade head, but I’m working hard to learn what I need to know so I can achieve that title. I am currently acting Head of Trade.”Job Corps Students Undertake Improvement Project at Fairs Students from the Job Corps are embarking on an ambitious project to renovate and revitalize the Fairs community. The students, who are part of the Job Corps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) program, will spend the next six months working on various projects throughout the community. One of the main goals of the project is to improve the Fairs Community Center. The students will be painting the interior and exterior of the building, making repairs to the roof, and installing new flooring. They will also be landscaping the area around the building and building a new playground for the children in the community. In addition to the Community Center, the students will also be working on other projects throughout Fairs. They will be cleaning up local parks, painting buildings, and helping with other community beautification projects. The students are excited to be working on this project and are eager to make a difference in the Fairs community. They believe that their work will help to improve the quality of life for all who live in the area.
