Alligator Attacks Golfer on Florida Golf CourseAlligator Attacks Golfer on Florida Golf Course Naples, Florida – A horrifying incident occurred on a Naples golf course on Wednesday morning, when an alligator attacked a golfer. According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, 81-year-old Robert Garrigus was golfing with his son on the 12th hole of Naples Lakes Golf Course when the reptile attacked. Witnesses stated that Garrigus was searching for a lost ball near a water hazard when an alligator lunged out of the water and bit onto his arm. Garrigus’s son and fellow golfers attempted to pull the alligator off, but it dragged Garrigus into the water. Horrified onlookers called 911, and firefighters arrived on scene within minutes. Firefighters used a rope to pull both Garrigus and the alligator from the water. Garrigus was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries to his arm, while the alligator was euthanized. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officers responded to the incident and cordoned off the area for an investigation. They believe that the alligator was likely defending its territory or food source. “Alligators are apex predators that are very territorial,” said FWC spokesperson Gary Morse. “It’s important to be aware of your surroundings and never approach or provoke these animals.” The FWC advises golfers and other visitors to Florida golf courses to be cautious around water hazards and to stay at least 10 feet away from alligators. If you see an alligator, do not approach it or try to feed it. This incident serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers posed by wildlife in Florida. Residents and visitors should always be vigilant and take precautions when spending time in areas where alligators may be present.
