Oklahoma State Loses Top Recruit Schobel to TCUOklahoma State Loses Top Recruit Schobel to TCU Oklahoma State University has lost a highly touted recruit, Adam Schobel, to rival TCU. Schobel, a four-star quarterback and the top-ranked commit in the Cowboys’ 2025 recruiting class, announced his decision to switch allegiance on Twitter. Schobel’s move is a significant blow to Oklahoma State’s recruiting efforts. He was the crown jewel of the 2025 class and was expected to be the centerpiece of the Cowboys’ offense in the coming years. However, Schobel’s decision is understandable. His father and uncle both played at TCU, and his nephew, a three-star edge rusher, is also committed to the Horned Frogs. Schobel expressed his excitement at playing with his cousin at his parents’ alma mater. The Cowboys have been actively pursuing quarterbacks in this recruiting cycle, offering scholarships to 10 signal callers. However, only one of those prospects, Baton Rouge native Emile Picarella, remains uncommitted. Schobel’s departure leaves Oklahoma State with 16 commits in the 2025 class, dropping the Cowboys to 10th in the Big 12 rankings. The team is now seeking to fill the void left by Schobel’s departure and secure a quarterback for the future.

One of the crown jewels of Oklahoma State’s 2025 recruiting class is instead sticking to his family ties.

Adam Schobel, a four-star recruit and previously the top-ranked commit in the Cowboys’ 2025 class, announced that he will instead begin his college career at TCU. Schobel’s father and uncle both played at TCU, so he will continue that family lineage. His nephew, a three-star edge rusher in the class, is also committed to TCU.

“I’ve been a TCU fan since the day I was born and when they called I quickly realized this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” Schobel tweeted. “A chance to play with my cousin at my parents’ alma mater.”

It’s been a bit of a game of musical chairs when it comes to quarterback commitments in this class. OSU essentially flipped Schobel from Baylor, with that trade coming in April. At the time, TCU had a quarterback committed in the class in four-star passer Ty Hawkins from IMG Academy, but in early July, Hawkins transferred from TCU to SMU, opening up the spot at Schobel’s legacy program.

OSU offered 10 quarterbacks this cycle, but nine are committed to other programs. As we’ve seen, a commitment doesn’t mean everything, so there’s a chance the Cowboys could flip someone from that group.

The only uncommitted passer in the class the Cowboys have offered, according to 247Sports, is Baton Rouge’s Emile Picarella. He announced an offer to OSU back in July of 2022. As it stands, he’s the No. 1,084 player in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He also has offers from Houston, Marshall, Louisville, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oregon and others.

Below are OSU’s other offers related to the school each of them has committed to:

Keelon Russel (Duncanville, Texas) – Alabama
Ty Hawkins (San Antonio, Texas) — SMU
Adam Schobel (Columbus, Texas) – TCU
Kevin Sperry (Denton, Texas) — Oklahoma
Zebulin Kinsey (Toronto, Ohio) — Cincinnati
Kelden Ryan (DeSoto, Texas) — Virginia Tech
Shaker Reisig (Tulsa) — Boston College
Sawyer Anderson (Dallas) — Purdue
Jett Niu (Lehi, Utah) — Appalachian Mountains

There aren’t many undrafted QBs left in the cycle. 247Sports lists Norfolk, Virginia’s Au’tori Newkirk as the highest-ranked, while the recruiting service lists him as the No. 47 passer in the class. Picarella is the next highest-ranked at No. 66.

Schobel’s move leaves the Cowboys class at No. 50 nationally with 16 commits, pushing the Pokes to No. 10 in the Big 12.
