As a result of that ambition, however, Barça did make the effort to pursue and seduce Athletic Club star Nico Williams. The 22-year-old Spanish star was stunning at the Euros and his performances understandably attracted a lot of external attention and gathered many foreign and domestic suitors.
Among those suitors was FC Barcelona, a club that was considered a heavy favorite to sign the young winger. Moreover, to further prove that point, the Catalan giants even put other operations on hold to give Nico Williams priority and arrange his arrival first.

While this is by no means a confirmation or official news, it serves as a clear warning sign for Barcelona if it turns out to be true. Waiting for one player without definitive results is annoying, but it is also very dangerous for a club like Barça. The club already has limited resources and could miss out on other great market opportunities while waiting for one player.
At the moment, however, Nico Williams is still on holiday with Barcelona star Lamine Yamal. Both players have yet to return to their respective clubs, but Barça are still hoping for a positive turnaround that will see both Spaniards reunited in the colours of FC Barcelona.
