RIYADH: The Saudi Ministry of Health’s annual Health Sector Transformation Program said in a 2023 report that the average life expectancy in the kingdom has increased to 77.6 years.

According to the Saudi Gazette, the report highlighted key achievements that align with the ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030.

The report shows that a remarkable increase is due to a series of health initiatives, including the introduction of health promotion policies in all areas of life, the reduction of salt in foods, the disclosure of calories, the promotion of a walking culture and the elimination of trans fats. There are also efforts to improve health care and better prevent health risks.

Key achievements in the report include an increase in patient satisfaction with hospital care from 82.41 percent in 2019 to 87.45 percent, and an increase in the number of qualified nurses per 100,000 population from 581.6 in 2019 to 733.

Moreover, primary health care coverage in residential areas, including remote areas, is 96.41 percent.

Key milestones in 2023 include the Council of Ministers’ approval of the establishment of the National Institute for Health Research and the completion of the first phase of the institutional transformation initiative for the Ministry of Health.
