The event featured USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car races, marking the opening round of a nine-night, seven-race series across the state. Two-time ISW champion Brady Bacon, eager to reclaim the title, emphasized the challenging nature of the competition. “If you stub your toe or make a mistake, you can get buried pretty deep, pretty fast,” he said. Bacon’s goal is to minimize the impact of any potential mishaps during the week. If Bacon succeeds, he will become the first consecutive ISW winner since Bryan Clauson’s victories in 2013 and 2014. Other former ISW champions hoping to take home the trophy include Justin Grant, Kevin Thomas Jr., Chase Stockon, CJ Leary, and Robert Ballou. The 2024 ISW schedule includes stops at Kokomo Speedway, Lawrenceburg Speedway, Circle City Raceway, Terre Haute Action Circuit, Bloomington Speedway, and Tri-State Speedway. PUTNAMVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — It’s one of the biggest weeks in dirt track racing every year.

The 37th annual Indiana Sprint Week (ISW) kicked off Friday at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Indiana.

Friday night’s USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car race was the first of seven races spread over nine nights across the state.

It was the first time Lincoln Park Speedway hosted the ISW opener since 2001.

One of the drivers who is eager to start the week is Brady Bacon.

“The crowd is big,” Bacon said. “People come from all over the country, all over the world, to come to Indiana Sprint Week.”

Bacon is a two-time ISW champion, having won the ISW title in 2016 and 2023. He knows what it takes to win and hopes to take the title again this year.

“Usually something goes wrong during the week, at some point,” Bacon said. “And to minimize the effects of that, on that particular night.”

If Bacon wins the ISW this year, he will become the first consecutive ISW winner since the late Bryan Clauson won the ISW title in 2013 and 2014.

The following drivers won ISW titles in consecutive years:

  • Chuck Amati (1989-90)*
  • Kevin Thomas (1992-93 and 1995-96)
  • Levi Jones (2008-09)
  • Bryan Clauson (2013-14)

* Amati was co-champion with Gary Trammell in 1990

“That’s another thing that makes it so tough,” Bacon said. “There’s going to be over 50 cars here tonight (Friday). So if you stub your toe or make a mistake, you can get buried pretty deep, pretty fast.”

In total, there are six former ISW champions hoping to take home the title this year. In addition to Bacon, Justin Grant, Kevin Thomas Jr., Chase Stockon, CJ Leary and Robert Ballou are all hoping to claim victory once again.

The ISW schedule for 2024 is as follows:

  • July 26 – Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Indiana.
  • July 27 – Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Indiana.
  • July 28 – Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
  • July 31 – Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana.
