MANISTEE, MI – Spectacular views of Lake Michigan are on the menu at this restaurant on the fifth floor of a new beachfront hotel in Up North.
Opened a year ago, the Hampton Inn & Suites Manistee Waterfront faces Manistee’s First Street Beach, recently voted Michigan’s best beach. It enhances the resort atmosphere with a light, airy and nautical décor, including the lobby, guestrooms, beach bar and Windward restaurant.
Windward is accessible by elevator from the lobby.

Upon entering through the double doors, guests are immediately greeted by panoramic views of Lake Michigan – and a host. There is a small waiting area around one of the floor-to-ceiling windows for those arriving at a busy time.
The entire 88-seat restaurant is lined with these floor-to-ceiling windows, which face west, north and east. They can even be opened for an alfresco dining experience.

The menu, presented on a small tablet, features creative dishes like the Bloody Mary poached shrimp appetizer ($14.50), honey mustard pretzel-crusted chicken entree ($24) and Mahi Mahi blackened fish tacos ($17), along with classics like pizza, burgers and steak. There’s also a kids’ menu, complete with crayons. There’s also a full bar and bar seating.
Windward is open for dinner only: 5-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; and 5-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It’s closed on Sundays. Those hours make it a great place to watch a Lake Michigan sunset year-round.

The hotel has 102 rooms, a beach bar with fire pits and mixed seating, a fitness center, an indoor pool and an indoor-outdoor hot tub. There are 55 rooms with balconies, including four that face east but still have views of Lake Michigan to the north.
