Infant’s Death at JMCH: Family Disputes Medical ReportInfant’s Death at JMCH: Family Disputes Medical Report A preliminary report by a medical team investigating the death of an 11-month-old baby at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) has raised concerns among the family. The report concludes that the child died due to asphyxia caused by milk accumulation in the airways. However, the family has expressed dissatisfaction with the report, arguing that it lacks evidence and raises questions about the child’s condition. They refute the claim of epilepsy and allege that hospital authorities failed to inform them of any such diagnosis. Appealing to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the family has demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding their child’s death. They maintain that the allegations of mistreatment and inadequate care made by them remain unaddressed by the preliminary report. The incident has also brought to light the alleged mistreatment of hospital staff by relatives of the deceased girl following her death. The breaking of PICU glass and the creation of a chaotic atmosphere have raised concerns about the safety and security of the hospital staff and patients. The JMCH administration has taken steps to address the family’s concerns and ensure a fair investigation. The medical team’s final report is still awaited, and it is expected to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the events that led to the baby’s death. The family remains hopeful that justice will prevail and the truth will be brought to light.

Jorhat, July 16: Nearly a week after the death of the 11-month-old baby, the three-member medical team constituted by the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital authorities to investigate the case submitted a preliminary report on Tuesday, stating that the child died due to asphyxia due to accumulation of milk in the airways or trachea.

The report dismissed allegations of mistreatment and went on to say that the girl suffered from epilepsy and had previously been hospitalised, sources said.

After the medical team submits the preliminary report, the family members and relatives of the deceased child are not satisfied with the report, without any evidence being provided.

They refused to accept the reasons given in the report, claiming that if the child was suffering from epilepsy, the hospital authorities had not informed them.

The family has appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of their child and bring about justice.

Interestingly, on July 10, an 11-month-old girl died at the JMCH, a day before she would have turned 1. Her parents alleged that a nurse at the hospital had given her an injection, after which the baby fainted and died.

The incident caused a lot of commotion, because relatives of the deceased girl were said to have treated her wrongly. Subsequently, the glass of the PICU was broken and fear was created among doctors, staff and patients of the institute, allegedly by relatives of the girl and their relatives.

This prompted the hospital management to assemble a medical team to investigate the matter.
