NGO Tasks FG to Tackle Root Causes of Insecurity Guardian Nigeria News Report A non-governmental organization (NGO), Global Initiative for Development and Peace (GIDP), has urged the Federal Government (FG) to address the root causes of insecurity in the country. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the Executive Director of GIDP, Dr. Anthony Ejiofor, stated that addressing insecurity requires a multidimensional approach that focuses on addressing the underlying factors contributing to violence and instability. According to Dr. Ejiofor, poverty, unemployment, inequality, and lack of access to basic social services are key drivers of insecurity in Nigeria. He noted that the government must invest heavily in these areas to create a more just and equitable society. “Insecurity is not just a security issue,” he emphasized. “It is a development issue. We need to address the root causes of poverty, unemployment, and inequality if we want to create a more peaceful and stable Nigeria.” The GIDP also called on the government to engage with local communities and address their grievances. Dr. Ejiofor stated that local communities are often marginalized and feel neglected by the government, which can lead to resentment and fuel insecurity. “The government must make an effort to reach out to local communities, listen to their concerns, and address their needs,” he said. “This will help build trust and create a more inclusive society.” The NGO also urged the government to strengthen its security agencies and provide them with the necessary resources to effectively combat insecurity. Dr. Ejiofor noted that the security forces are currently overstretched and underfunded, which hampers their ability to effectively respond to security threats. “We need to invest more in our security agencies,” he said. “We need to provide them with the necessary equipment, training, and resources to enable them to effectively tackle insecurity.” The GIDP expressed its commitment to continue working with the government and other stakeholders to address the root causes of insecurity and create a more peaceful and stable Nigeria.Non-profit organizations (NGOs) have called on the federal government to address the root causes of insecurity in the country. They made the appeal at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday. The NGOs expressed concern over the increasing rate of insecurity, which they said has claimed many lives and displaced millions of people. They noted that the current approach to tackling insecurity, which is mainly focused on military operations, has not yielded the desired results. The NGOs urged the government to adopt a more comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty, unemployment, and inequality. They also called for the government to improve governance, promote dialogue and reconciliation, and strengthen law enforcement agencies.
