Mondon, a projected starter for Georgia in 2024, recorded 68 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks in 2023. Hughley, a redshirt freshman, did not see game action in his first season with the Bulldogs.

Georgia inside linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. and offensive lineman Bo Hughley were arrested earlier this week on misdemeanors including reckless driving.

Athens-Clarke County police arrested Mondon on Wednesday, July 10, for reckless driving. He was speeding on the highway/street at approximately 11:05 p.m. Hughley was arrested by University of Georgia police on Tuesday, July 9, at approximately 8:37 p.m. for reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and improper driving, according to ACC jail records.

Mondon was released after approximately an hour and a half at 12:25 p.m. on a $26 cash bond. Hughley was also released after an hour and a half at 10:08 p.m. on a bond of the same amount.

The arrests add to the latest in a string of driving-related tickets and arrests involving the Georgia football program. Mondon and Hugley are now the third and fourth Georgia players to be arrested this offseason.

Running back Trevor Etienne was arrested on March 24 and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane/improper roadway and installing materials that obscure windows/windshields. As of July 10, Etienne’s DUI charges were dropped, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

Wide receiver Sacovie White was also arrested on May 18 on charges of reckless driving and one-way traffic.

Mondon is expected to be one of Georgia’s starting inside linebackers for the 2024 season. He finished the 2023 season with 68 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. Additionally, Hughley is preparing for his redshirt freshman year at UGA. Formerly a four-star prospect, Hugley did not see the field as a true freshman in the 2023 season.
