Launched in 2020, the “Regional Employment Offices” aim to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers. To facilitate the transportation of applicants to job interviews, the proposal offers free public transportation support three times a day for four months. The proposal submitted to Parliament outlines the following criteria: * Applicants with a free Istanbulkart or documentation of unemployment must attend a job interview at a regional employment office. * They are eligible for a maximum of four months of free transportation passes (limited to three passes per day and 32 passes per month). * The transportation passes will be issued through the Istanbulkart Portable Application’s QR function. The implementation will be overseen by the Lifelong Learning Branch Directorate, with monthly reports provided by BELBİM AŞ. The cost of the program will be covered by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Mayor İmamoğlu emphasized the importance of the city’s involvement in addressing unemployment, stating: “We have an understanding that says ‘Full steam ahead’ for this city’s name in production, employment, and every issue.” The free transportation program aims to support individuals in their job search and foster a thriving job market in Istanbul.
