The clip was shared by Courtnie and Nate (@courtandnate), a Southern California couple who showed off the transformation of a Promaster 159 Extended van into a mobile home. The video has been viewed 2.7 million times since it was shared on July 6.

The footage opens with the couple standing on a dirt road with a message superimposed over the video: “Can you build me a house, but one that we can drive around in and have adventures in?” The video then documents the intricate process of converting a simple van into a fully equipped home on wheels.

The couple’s love of life on the road isn’t surprising, given that the travel industry is expected to hit “record highs” in 2024. According to a December 2023 study by market research firm Euromonitor International, global tourism spending is expected to reach $2 trillion, fueled by demand for leisure activities.

Travelers say they will cut back on other personal expenses this year and prioritize vacation travel, according to a global survey of more than 10,000 travelers in nine countries conducted by Ipsos and the Hilton hotel group.

Courtnie and Nate met at work in 2015 and began their van life in 2019. The viral video captures various stages of the van’s development, including the installation of drawers, cabinets, a sink, and a bed frame.

A caption on the post reads: “My dream home, built from scratch. I had so many big requests for Nate during this process and he executed every single one to perfection.

“This video makes it look easy, but make no mistake, building a van is HARD work. Especially if you’re picky and want to do things in a very specific way,” the caption continues.

The custom-built van is more than just a means of transportation; it is the couple’s permanent home. It is fully equipped with amenities such as a kitchen area, efficient storage solutions and a composting toilet, which, despite initial hesitation, has become an essential part of their van life.

The hard work that went into building the mobile home paid off, as Courtnie writes in the caption: “In the end it was all worth it and this is without a doubt the favorite place I have ever lived.”
