BEAVER, Utah — The Silver King fire has spread to 10,000 acres, according to the Gunnison Valley Fire Department. Residents of Upper Bullion Canyon have been evacuated.

Silver King Fire

As of Saturday, the Silver King Fire was about 686 acres, according to the UFI Facebook page. By Sunday morning, the fire had doubled in size to 2,830 acres. By 8:30 a.m. that same day, the fire had doubled in size again to 5,400 acres.

By Sunday evening around 7:30 PM, the fire had grown to an area of ​​over 4,000 hectares.

UFI said firefighters and aircraft are both working to get ahead of the fire. Firefighters are using firefighting aircraft, helicopters and ground troops to keep the public safe.

The fire is believed to be eight miles west of Marysvale and is believed to have been started by a lightning strike. UFI has stated that a red flag warning is in effect until 9pm on Sunday.

“Today, crews protected the historic Silver King Mine and attempted to extinguish spot fires in an effort to prevent the fire from spreading north,” UFI said. “Please avoid the areas of the Beaver Creek Drain and the Bullion Drain to ensure the safety of firefighters and the public.”

Public reaction to the fire in Silver King

Governor Spencer Cox and Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson both traveled to the scene of the fire.

Both parties met for a briefing to discuss the current status of the fire.

Little Twist Fire

However, on Saturday morning the Little Twist fire appears to be under control.

“Firefighters are working to improve existing fire breaks and keep everything under control while the inner areas within the perimeter continue to burn,” UFI said in a Facebook post.

“Smoke will be visible in the South Creek area from both Beaver and Piute County.”
