What is poutine?

Poutine Peddlers parked its food truck in Taunton in November 2021, in the parking lot of 239 Broadway.

Macedo said she and co-owner/high school friend Shelley Ring “wanted to bring something different here” to the area, and that they both fell in love with the popular Canadian staple, poutine.

“What’s not to love?” Macedo said, referring to the traditional poutine’s ingredients, namely fries, gravy, curds and scallions. It’s all a bit messy, which is why it’s usually eaten with a fork.

Fries, of course, are the foundation of what Poutine Peddlers does. Each batch is fried to order, “so they’re always hot, fresh and crispy when they’re shipped,” Macedo says.

Asked what makes their fries a cut above the competition, no pun intended, she added: “Fries are what we do. We specialize and focus on that. We wanted to be the best and always strive for that.”

What’s on the menu?

  • Although the menu is small, Poutine Peddlers gets creative with how they present their fries. In addition to the traditional poutine, which is referred to on the menu as the “OG,” another popular selection is the “Porky Pig,” which takes poutine and adds coleslaw, BBQ sauce, and BBQ pulled pork that comes straight from Taunton staple Kinfolks BBQ.
  • Then there’s the “Mac Attack,” which serves poutine with seasoned ground beef, cheese sauce, pickles and “special sauce.”
  • This reporter also recommends the “Gold Fever Chick,” a poutine with fried chicken and a spicy, honey mustard-like “gold fever sauce.”
  • There are always weekly specials. During this interview, Poutine Peddlers offered a “Teeny Weeny Poutine,” which is poutine with fried hot dogs, mustard, and diced onions, and the “Italian Sausage Poutine,” which is poutine with fried Italian sausage, roasted onions and peppers, and mustard.
  • And if you just want fries, you can of course order those too and be satisfied.
