The deadliest incident occurred in Greater Grand Crossing early Thursday morning, where two women were killed, and three boys, aged 5, 7, and 8, were critically injured in a shooting inside their home. Multiple gunmen are believed to have opened fire from outside. In other incidents, a 22-year-old man was shot multiple times while riding his motorcycle Thursday night, a 26-year-old man was shot in the neck and head while sitting in his car, a 36-year-old woman was shot in the head, a 34-year-old man was shot in the neck, and a 27-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head. All of the victims were taken to local hospitals, where their conditions ranged from fair to critical. As of the time of writing, no arrests have been made in any of these shootings. This surge in violence has cast a shadow over the holiday weekend, prompting outrage and concern among residents and officials alike.

Two women were killed and at least eight other people — including three young boys — were injured in gun violence early in the Fourth of July weekend, Chicago police said.

The women were killed in a shooting in Greater Grand Crossing that left the boys — ages 5, 7 and 8 — seriously wounded around 6:15 a.m. Thursday in the 7100 block of South Woodlawn. Police said they were shot inside a home when multiple gunmen opened fire from outside. The boys were in critical condition at Comer Children’s Hospital.

Thursday night at 11 p.m., a 22-year-old man was riding his motorcycle in the 600 block of East 71st Street when he was shot multiple times by someone in a gray SUV, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.

A 26-year-old man was sitting in a car around 11:30 p.m. when he was shot in the neck and head by someone in another car in the 6500 block of South Western Avenue, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in critical condition.

Just after midnight, a 36-year-old woman was shot in the head in the 3000 block of South Avers Avenue, police said. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition.

A 34-year-old man was shot in the neck around 1 a.m. Thursday in the 6200 block of South Laflin Street. He was taken to the University of Chicago in critical condition, police said.

And around 3 a.m., officers found a 27-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head in the 1300 block of South Harding Avenue, police said. The man said he had been attacked by an unknown person. He was in serious condition at Mount Sinai.

No one has been arrested for any of the attacks.
