WASHINGTON, DC (WTVO) — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is one of more than two dozen Democratic governors meeting with President Joe Biden on Wednesday night for a “direct and candid conversation” following last week’s disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump.

The meeting is part of a White House effort to convince Biden’s supporters that he can still win the November election.

Pritzker, along with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healy, Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore are attending the meeting in person, according to ABC news.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Washington Governor Jay Inslee will attend virtually.

The meeting takes place after the Democrats openly mentioned for Biden, 81, to drop out of the raceHe is also scheduled to appear for a network TV interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and hold a press conference on Friday.

Pritzker, who will host the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month, told ABC News that Biden “needs to communicate more” about his plan to win over voters if he wants to stay in the race.

“I think there will be a healthy conversation where the president will hopefully articulate what he plans to do in the campaign and assure everyone that this is the right course to take to make sure we stay the course with him,” he said.
