We love a historical piece, especially one that bends the rules of history! The new movie Firemark That’s exactly what takes you on a journey through the relationship between King Henry VIII and his most demure wife Catherine Parr.

The historical drama stars Oscar winner Alicia Vikander as Catherine. Set against the backdrop of the reign of Henry VIII (Jude Law), Catherine finds herself in dangerous situations as she deals with the king’s degrading health and mean temper and her connection with childhood friend Anne Askew (played by Erin Doherty) who creates danger for Catharina and her marriage.

As if managing a broken marriage to the King of England wasn’t enough, Catherine must also balance her maternal responsibilities to Henry’s children. While King Henry has appeared in the media before, this is the first time Catherine’s story has been told on screen, and Out got the chance to talk to the movie stars about their characters.

During our conversation with Law, we asked him how he tackled the role of this despicable king while trying to humanize him.

“It was such an interesting part of his life to be able to play because he obviously has a history of tyranny and violence, but he’s also kind of on the way out,” Law said. Out. “He’s weakening, he’s dying, which makes him more dangerous in many ways. Like a wounded person, I always saw him as a wounded gorilla where his legs don’t work, but he has this big powerful upper body but underneath nothing works. And so I try just, I think, to give some credibility to that. There was, I wasn’t trying to sympathize with him, but just trying to understand why, or rather how these wounds on his legs and this sense of self-contempt would affect him. And especially because as a young man I was a kind of golden god who was revered for his dancing and his sporting agility on the sports field and his music. And it was kind of a crushing burden, I think, on where he found himself I mean, I don’t think he expected to have such an incredibly dramatic love life. And here he is, 30 years after his first marriage and he has two beheadings, a divorce, a death on his conscience. . And I think that had a huge effect on him too. So Catherine had a hard time with it. She was dealing with someone with a damaged ego, physically and emotionally damaged, and he had to be absolutely authentic rather than some kind of monster.”

Since Catherine Parr had never been portrayed on screen before, Alicia Vikander, who we know best Tomb Raider And The Danish girlhad a lot to play with, so we asked her what aspects of her character she found most appealing to play.

“I mean, there are obvious aspects that this was such an incredible woman, not just of her time. Now, most people don’t know that she was a published author and that she was very politically involved for a woman of that time, It is clearly that she survived living with this man. And that’s worth pointing out,” she said “But I think I can kind of get into the spirit of what it’s like for women throughout history have been. I mean, we just live in a society that has thankfully changed now. They are just like women aspects of how to move yourself with kindness. They were moments when I felt like being a young woman, that I just knew how to sometimes tiptoe around how men could approach you or talk to you and that you were just trying to soothe it, not upset it. Everyone, just don’t worry about it. And here you have the same feeling, but it depended on your life every day and that you should not shy away from how this woman should know. in the marriage that was clearly the truth of what happened with the previous wives, but also knowing that this, I think she wanted to succeed, I think she clearly wanted to survive and that’s why she had to create this relationship that he both didn’t need had to believe, but I think she had to believe too, otherwise you can’t get up in the morning. You have to justify yourself in this reality. And I think that kind of struggle with having to live was what really interested me in trying to tell it.

Both Vikander and Law are captivating and immersed in this period, and there is never a shortage of talent when these two names are involved!

Arsonist is in theaters and available on VOD July 2. Watch the trailer below.
