Obi Toppin and the Indiana Pacers are the running backs.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the team reportedly signed Toppin to a four-year, $60 million deal that will keep him out of restricted free agency.

Toppin, 26, has been a solid role player for the Pacers, averaging career bests in points (10.3 PPG), rebounds (3.9 RPG), field goal percentage (57.3 percent) and three-point shooting (40.3 percent) in the 2023 -24 campaign.

He also appeared in all 82 games (28 starts) and remained a reliable part of the rotation throughout the season.

While Toppin never quite lived up to the expectations that came with being the eighth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, his length, athleticism and recent ability to cover the court have made him a valuable contributor to Indiana.

When the Pacers traded away Buddy Hield at the trade deadline — giving away another player who should have been re-signed in free agency this summer — it seemed likely that the Pacers would want to keep both Pascal Siakam and Toppin.

Toppin is back, at least. For a young Pacers team that showed promising strides last season, it made sense to keep most of the core together, if possible.
