CM Revanth in Warangal: BRS leaders placed under house arrest

War: When Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy visited Warangal on Saturday to participate in various programmes, several Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders were kept under house arrest.

The BRS leaders raised objections to the Congress government’s plans to remove the Kakatiya Thoranam from the state logo. They had also criticised the government for attempting to rename the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park as Warangal Textile Park.

Fearing that student organisations would stage protests demanding filling of two lakh jobs and implementation of election promises made to the youth, some student leaders of Kakatiya University were also taken into preventive custody on Friday evening ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit.

The BRS leaders also objected to the proposals of the Congress leaders to prepare a new master plan for Warangal city. A master plan had already been prepared by the BRS government in the past and conducting fresh surveys would take a lot of time and delay the execution of various development works, they had said.

BRS leader A Rakesh Reddy, who was put under house arrest, condemned the dictatorial rule of the Congress government. “The Congress government claims to have delivered Praja Palana, but why are people being arrested and banned from approaching elected representatives of the people?” he asked, also demanding that the Chief Minister clarify the state government’s plans to remove the Kakatiya Thoranam from the official state logo.

He also demanded that the chief minister apologize unconditionally for his comments that Kakatiya Thoranam was a symbol of dictatorship. If the government fails to provide clarity on the issue, protests will take place in front of the homes of Congress leaders, he said, adding that any attempt to hurt the self-respect of the people of Telangana will not would be tolerated.
